The Knitting Needle As A Variable Tool

Published by Author at 1:29 am under Knitting

The Knitting Needle which is used today is made of different types of material.  It could be made of aluminum, nickel, plastic, wood or bamboo.  There are various shapes too like the circular needle, the needle with a double point, the sock needle or the single point needle.

Types

The size of the Knitting Needle that you use is according to the yarn, the size of the project and the object that you are knitting.  A circular needle is used for the neck of the sweater or a sock needle for knitting socks.  The double point Knitting Needle is most commonly used, especially if the object that you are knitting is large and heavy.  The double point needle is required for stitching closed and rounded objects.

There is an oversize Knitting Needle which is meant for oversize pullovers or blankets for example.  The yarn is heavy as well; hence the needle has to be heavy and strong to take the weight of the object that you are knitting.

Material Used

The bamboo Knitting Needle is light, but easily breakable.  Hence the aluminum and nickel needles are by far the most popular.  Plastic needles are often used by children and adults, and are popular in India.  A Knitting Needle made of the finest woods like ebony, rosewood or the coconut palm looks beautiful and is even better to hold.  Such needles come in different shapes; they are straight, circular and double pointed.

Sizing System

It is indeed very frustrating if you are not able to locate the perfect knitting needle for your project.  If you want to enjoy your knitting, be sure to select the circular one that you are most comfortable with.  The US Needle Sizing System is very confusing, so use the Millimeters to choose your size of Knitting Needle, which will be more accurate.

A Knitting Needle could also be used to make lace.  If the needle is thin, the product is fine too.  Hence when you want to knit lace and want it to look elegant and stylish, use a smaller size of Knitting Needle to produce delicate lace.  The size of the needle is naturally according to the yarn for the project.

Since a Knitting Needle is a tool, you should learn the skill well in order to enjoy it and make good objects. Many people are so good with their needles, that they can watch television and continue to knit, without requiring to look at the knitting.  An occasional glance is enough, even if the pattern is complicated.
