As with any craft, technique is important. In fact, each craft has their own set of techniques, and in some cases, techniques can be standardized or personal.  A standardized technique is a technique that is usually taught for that particular craft across the board.  For example, photo cropping in scrapbooking is a scrapbooking technique. There are certain ways to do each aspect of scrapbooking or any other craft. There may be a standardized scrapbooking technique for how to cut pictures a certain way and the way your grandmother showed you.

However, there can also be techniques, which are family or teacher to student. In other words, there is a style to every technique and depending on who teaches the technique to you may change how it is actually done. The important thing is not how you do it but that no matter how you do it, it turns out the same time, every time.

Different Types Of Scrapbooking Technique

There are varieties of different techniques that are involved in scrapbooking. There are techniques involved in applying the papers; stickers and other add ones to the pages. There are techniques to paper folding, photo cutting, photo placement and journaling. There are even ways that you should place the pages within the book.

If you are interested in learning all the various types of techniques involved in scrapbooking then taking a class in general or beginning scrapbooking is probably your best bet. Most craft stores that cater to scrapbooking will offer classes and you can always check out the local crop. These crops are filled with all sorts of people from beginners to professionals and can be a great resource.

However, if you are looking to learn a specific scrapbooking technique then you may have to go outside of scrapbooking to learn. For example, journaling is something that just about everyone does in their scrapbooks. It identifies the events and what is happening in the pictures as well as when they were taken. The writing however, can be anything from normal scribbles, to finely done calligraphy. You might not find a class in calligraphy under scrapbooking or as a scrapbooking technique.

The same goes for taking the actual photographs to use in the scrapbook or the paper folding techniques that are sometimes used. You may not be able to find specific scrapbooking classes on these topics but may be able to find classes for them in different areas.
