Hand Quilting Frames – Assistance With Your Hand Quilting Projects
Quilts are huge projects, even a decent sized lap quilt is going to take a significant amount of effort to create. They can be especially heavy when attempting to sew them by hand. This is why hand quilting frames can come in very handy. What are hand quilting frames? Hand quilting frames are frames that are designed to contain the project and support it while you are working on it so that you can concentrate on your stitches rather than on having to support your work.
The Makeup Of Hand Quilting Frames
There are a number of different types of hand quilting frames. Each one had its advantages and disadvantages. The basic set up of a quilting frame is simple. It is the same design used for smaller lap frames. If you have never seen one, they are simply a square frame, depending on the type, they may have round sides on the top and bottom or they may have square pieces.
The idea behind it is to provide a way simply to hold the weight of the piece with the frame rather than having to hold it yourself in your hands or lap and try to work. The frame also holds the work area taut to allow for smooth and even stitches. It can also hold a much larger area without putting strain on the stitches like moving hoops around the work can do.
For quilting frames, the frames are simply larger rather than smaller. They are usually freestanding rather than lap frames and can be as large as a table depending on exactly what size of quilts you are normally doing. These can be expensive frames so it is important that if you are going to invest in one that you find one that not only works for you but that provides you with what you are going to need not just for your current project but for future projects as well.
There are also various types of fasteners and other accessories that can go with a quilting frame. If you have need of these accessories such as a magnifying glass or lights there are some frames that allow for attachments to be easily added and removed, you may find it more difficult with others. Frames are a great way to be able to work on complex and large projects easily. You can purchase frames or make them yourself.
